Dutch Design Week – Embassy of Sustainable Design
Date: 19th – 27th October, 2019
Time: 11:00 – 18.00
Location: Innovation Powerhouse, Strijp-T, Eindhoven
With the theme “If not now, then when” DDW 2019 emphasizes the urgency of the desired transition to sustainability and a more circular economy.
This year, ArtEZ Future Makers will take part in the Embassy of Sustainable Design, one of the World Design Embassies that culminates with exhibitions and events during Dutch Design Week.
As Part of the Embassy of Sustainable Design, ArtEZ Future Makers has developed the Labyrinth of Sustainability –
Sustainability is a widely used but very complex concept. When is something really sustainable? In the Labyrinth of Sustainability installation, visitors are challenged to take steps themselves to design a T-shirt that is as sustainable as possible. But where one step in the process may be very sustainable, another might not be. The most sustainable raw material may exclude the most sustainable production method! How do you come to a truly sustainable T-shirt? To help visitors with their choices, the labyrinth shows example projects of contemporary Dutch designers doing research at ArtEZ Future Makers. There is work on display by, among others, Tjeerd Veenhoven, Charlotte van Alem and Aliki van der Kruijs. Labyrinth of Sustainability lets the visitor experience the complexity of sustainable design.
