In January 2017, dr. Danielle Bruggeman has been appointed as Professor of Fashion at ArtEZ University of the Arts. In 2014 she successfully defended her PhD dissertation More Than Meets the Eye: Dutch Fashion, Identity and New Materialism at Radboud University Nijmegen. Bruggeman’s PhD research was part of a large-scale interdisciplinary research project on fashion in the Netherlands, ‘Dutch Fashion Identity in a Globalised World’; a four-year study by the Radboud University, ArtEZ, the Saxion University of Applied Sciences and the University of Amsterdam.
Bruggeman’s mission is to build a research community out of the Fashion Professorship, to collectively research the major challenges for the future of fashion. The professorship aims to make a positive contribution to developing visions for the future of the fashion system in relation to the changing social, economic and technological developments.

After more than 15 years in business and (design)management, she has been working for the past 10 years to strengthen innovation, professionalisation and entrepreneurship in the creative sector for, amongst others, Premsela Platform for Design & Fashion, Cultuur-Ondernemen, and as an independent consultant.
I have been affiliated with the Tactical Design Professorship since 2018 and have an advisory role here and sometimes I also do project coordination. I myself have been active as an independent designer since 2000, where I focus on the development of sustainable materials from organic residual flows in order to subsequently design products with them. I am based in Groningen where I develop many of these materials and products myself in my own studio. My interest in being involved in the professorship has been fueled by my desire to convert my practical experience into more theoretical transferable knowledge. It is with great pleasure that I contribute to the projects initiated by ArtEZ Future Makers.
My name is Michelle Baggerman. I’m a design researcher and I’ve joined the team of ArtEZ Future Makers in September as research coordinator.
In addition to this, I do design research projects with a strong focus on textiles and sustainability in my studio Bureau Baggerman in Eindhoven. I like to collaborate with both scientists and industry and I aim to combine traditional textile practices and new materials/technology to explore ways to make textiles more sustainable.
In the past I’ve done research for instance for the Readership in Strategic Creativity at Design Academy Eindhoven and the KYOTO Design-Lab of Kyoto Institute of Technology. Experience which I hope to share and develop with the ArtEZ Future Makers community.
